Drying Affeced Areas

Restorative drying

SERVPRO of Hicksville/Plainview manipulate and control as many factors as possible in our drying system to produce the most efficient drying.

Once as much water as possible has been extracted, evaporation of remaining moisture is enhanced by:

  • Lowering humidity in the affected air
  • Increasing airflow across wet surfaces.
  • Controlling temperature of air and surfaces
  • Using outside air when possible
  • Creating a drying chamber.

Evaporated moisture must be removed from the affected areas by dehumidification or ventilation.

Hurricane season is just around the corner

Hurricane season is just around the corner

Scientists from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) today May 24, 2018 released their forecast for this year's Atlantic hurricane season, predicting a near normal or above normal season. What does that mean?

Well.... The forecasters predict a 70 percent likelihood of 10 to 16 named storms with winds of 39 mph or higher.

Of those named storms, the forecasters predict five to nine could become hurricanes, including one to four major ones.

Hurricanes have winds of 74 mph or higher and major hurricanes are considered to be at least Category 3.

An average hurricane season brings 12 named storms, of which six become hurricanes.

CANDLE SAFETY RULES

CANDLE SAFETY RULES

  • Always keep a burning candle within sight. Extinguish all candles when leaving a room or before going to sleep. Be sure the wick ember is no longer glowing.
  • Never burn a candle on or near anything that can catch fire. Keep burning candles away from furniture, drapes, bedding, carpets, books, paper, flammable decorations, etc.
  • Keep burning candles out of the reach of children and pets.
  • Trim candlewicks to ¼ inch each time before burning. Long or crooked wicks can cause uneven burning and dripping.
  • Always use a candle-holder specifically designed for candle use. The holder should be heat resistant, sturdy, and large enough to contain any drips or melted wax.

Holiday Cooking Safety

Cooking Safety Tips

• Put a lid on a grease fire to smother it, then turn off the heat. Baking soda will also work.

• Never throw water or use a fire extinguisher on a grease fire. Water will only spread the fire and the force of the extinguisher can splash flaming grease out of the pan.

• Wear short or tight fitting sleeves when cooking. Loose fitting clothing can easily catch fire.

• If your clothing catches fire, STOP, DROP & ROLL to put out the flames. Put burns in cool running water. Call 9-1-1 for help.

• Keep pot handles turned inward to prevent accidental spills of hot contents.

• Create a three-foot “child-free zone” around the stove. Keep children and pets away from the stove while cooking to prevent burns and scalds.
